Mach 4 - Flat Wood Ceiling Panels

Mach 4 – Flat Panels

Flat panels are the most common architectural wood ceiling. Real wood, flush to the ceiling plane, no visible mechanical systems. The look is clean. The engineering is straightforward.
Penner builds flat panels in three configurations within one product family:
Standard (Mach 4) is the solid wood surface. No perforations, no slots. Use it where absorption isn’t required or where a continuous wood plane is the priority.
Perforated (Mach 4.1) adds precision-drilled holes backed by acoustic fleece. Sound passes through the perforations and gets absorbed by the backing material. Hole diameter and spacing are configurable to hit your NRC target.
Slotted Acoustical (Mach 4.2) uses linear groove patterns on the face with backside perforations for higher NRC performance. The grooves add a textured look while the dual-mechanism construction (face slots plus back perforations) increases absorption beyond what either approach achieves alone.
Same core construction and attachment methods across configurations. Switching from standard to perforated doesn’t restart your timeline or change your install method.

Panels lay into grid systems, clip to concealed rails, or screw to direct-mount substrates. Each panel arrives factory-finished with attachment hardware installed and configuration marked, so the installer isn’t making decisions in the field.

The same panel construction works on ceilings, walls, and transitions. One scope, one finish standard, even when the ceiling turns a corner and runs down the wall.

Lead time note: custom perforation patterns and non-standard panel sizes add 2-3 weeks beyond standard configurations.

  • Solid wood and veneer construction on fire-rated cores
  • Standard, perforated, and slotted acoustical configurations
  • Configurable perforation diameter, spacing, and pattern
  • Configurable slot width, groove profile, and spacing
  • Acoustic fleece backing on perforated and slotted variants
  • Multiple attachment methods (grid lay-in, concealed clip, direct mount)
  • Removable panels for plenum access
  • Accommodates integrated lighting and mechanical penetrations
  • Custom and standard panel sizes
  • Factory stain and finish with custom color matching
  • Fire rated (Class A)
  • Healthcare facilities and patient areas
  • Corporate offices and headquarters
  • Universities and lecture halls
  • Government and civic buildings
  • Hospitality lobbies and conference centers
  • Performing arts venues
  • Retail environments
  • High-end residential
  • Exterior soffits (standard configuration only)

Multiple North American hardwood species available. Every configuration can be stain matched to your project’s color palette. Finish is applied in controlled conditions so perforated, slotted, and standard panels installed side by side match in color and sheen.

Send us your drawings. We’ll recommend the right configuration and quote it with specs and lead times.
